Change in the calculation of the College R score (CRC)

As of the 2018 admission, a new methodology for calculating the R-score at the college level has been put in place by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEES). For more information, consult the following link: http://www.bci-qc.ca/etudiants/cote-r/ .

To illustrate the implementation of these modalities, here is an example for a student who begins his
college in the fall of 2016. In his case, from the fall 2016 trimester to the summer 2017 semester
inclusive, there is a retroactive application of the revised formula. However, its CRC per course, based
on the current calculation, are maintained if these prove to be superior to those obtained by the formula
changed. Starting in the fall 2017 quarter, and for all subsequent quarters, its CRC per course
are calculated exclusively according to the revised formula.
With this approach, the first students whose CRC will be calculated according to the modified formula
will enter the university in the fall of 2018. Moreover, with the revised formula, it is possible that some
CRC thresholds, that is, the last candidate admitted to a given university program, be reviewed
on the rise.
In addition, the introduction of the amended CRC no longer justifies granting an automatic bonus
CRC associated with a program of studies. Therefore, there will be no more bonus of 0.5 point
awarded to the average CRC of students leaving an International Baccalaureate (IB) program or
of the DEC program in Science, Arts and Letters (ALS).
