Selection FactorsUniversity Of Sherbrooke
The number of year one positions for 2016/17 will be around 201. This number could differ according to government regulations as well as replacements to compensate for attrition. These 201 positions will be roughly allocated as follows: 171 for residents of Québec, 28 for residents of Atlantic Canada, 1 for residents of Western Canada, 1 for foreign applicants holding a student visa. There is an agreement between the 4 schools of Québec for positions intended for First Nations or Inuit people who are Québec residents or for members of the Canadian Forces. The positions are determined by Canadian regulations and the 4 faculties agree on the way these positions are to be shared.
The 201 positions are allocated between three sites roughly as follow: 139 to the Sherbrooke site, 34 to the Saguenay site and 24 to the Moncton site. At the beginning of May, applicants who apply as Québec residents must complete a form to choose a site by stating their preference between Saguenay and Sherbrooke. The assignment of these persons to one of those two sites depends among other things upon the number of available positions at each site at the time the offer is made, upon the applicant’s preference mentioned on the site choice form and upon the rank of the applicants on the excellence list. The Saguenay site is reserved solely for Québec applicants. The Moncton site is reserved solely for New Brunswick applicants.
Canadian citizens/permanent residents or foreign applicants holding a student visa may apply. To have earned, before the start of the school year, a diploma or degree deemed equivalent to the College studies diploma (CéGEP) given by the Québec Ministry of Education, Leisure and Sport; or have achieved at least 75 university credits at the date of the filing of the application.
The first step of the selection process is based on prior academic performance (college and university results). Prerequisite courses (post-secondary level) to have successfully completed are: Mathematics 103 and 203; Physics 101, 201 and 301; Chemistry 101, 201 and 202; Biology 301 and 401 or Biology 911 and 921. Courses deemed equivalent by the faculty will be accepted.
The MCAT is not considered in our admission process.
